June 4th, 2007: Texel livestock

Here are some more images of the various animals on Texel. I found these strange hairy cows the other day... Someone told me that they're Scottish highland cows and that they are there to eat the vegetation to preserve the dunes (prevent them from being overgrown by the surrounding forest).

Some miniture horses...
And of course, more sheep!

I biked by this field of sheep a few days ago and as I approached ALL of the sheep turned towards me and started baahhhh-ing. It was creepy!
Some llamas that are in a field near my apartment.

I love your animal pics. the sheep are sooo cute. the llamas look naked without their fur. I think I have seen that species of cow at the blue hill fair. xo

I was hunting for your monkey-puzzle trees on the internet, and all that I could come up with for Texel was the mutton!

They are actually experimenting using those cows to restore oak savannas in wisconsin, because they eat even the nastiest shrubberies.

ps-this is is your friend from biology :)

Humm... I think the "mando" would have given away who you are!!! :)

I really like the monkey-puzzle trees! I wonder if they could be grown in the states or not - I'm guessing that the cold winters of Maine and Wisconsin may be too harsh for them...

You can never have too many sheep. Also, I love the hairy cows, too. Also, Bubba's starting to look a little like that momma sheep. He's mostly fluff, now.
