May 28th: weird Texel trees...

Texel is full of these strange trees, which many people have in their gardens in front of their houses. From a distance it resembles a pine tree... ...but up close the leaves are more like a palm tree or a yucca plant.

I saw one tree that had a dried up white flower at the end of the branch.

Does anyone know what type of plant this is???

It is not a native tree of course

Isla,
a quick search proved me right. It is a tree from southern Chile, seeds are edible, same family as Norfolk Island Pines.

Some folks call it monkey puzlle tree.

Not to get too nerdy, but the big sauropod dinosaurs (brontosaurus-type) probably ate these things way back in the Jurassic. Can you send me more pictures?
